Venice: January 2013 (or is it 1510?)

Here we are in in Venice, working on our second book in the Francesco Angeli series, tentatively titled The Lions of St. Mark’s. So much of the city is the same as when Francesco was here in 1510. And in the fog with the bells ringing, it’s not too hard to imagine ourselves back in the 16th century. In fact, we wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Francesco emerge from the mist and ask for our help. We’ll agree of course, so long as he’s willing to buy us a spritz in return. In fact, we think Francesco could use a spritz or two; he’s been a little too serious of late. But perhaps that comes with finding a dead girl on the doorstep of your palazzo, and we did put him through an awful lot in Rome in The Wolves of St. Peter’s.

Monday, January 7, 2013 - 9:30 am on the Zattere.

Monday, January 7, 2013 - 5 pm on The Grand Canal.

Enjoying our daily spritz at the local bar called Al Bottegon.

Speaking of which, Wolves, the first book in the Francesco Angeli trilogy, will be released this April, with an Italian translation slated for 2014.

For a taste of the Venetian winter (20th century, not 16th), we highly recommend Nobel and U.S. poet laureate Joseph Brodsky’s Watermark.
